Studying with a disability

You are here

Studying with a disability does not have to be an obstacle at UCLL. We stand for an inclusive policy, where possible. You may be eligible for educational or examination facilities on the basis of the student with a disability status. Below you can find how all this works and how we can help you.

Your first point of contact are the Student Services in Leuven and Diest or Limburg. You can go there in confidence for information and advice. You also start the procedures for obtaining facilities there. We advise future students to check our services as early as their final year of secondary education.

step 1

You can apply for the status of student with a disability via the “Enrollments and applications” tab on the KU loket (link is external). On the basis of the provided documentation and possibly an interview, you will be awarded the student with a disability status by the Student Services. You will be notified of this by e-mail and will receive the certificate of recognition status. Depending on the nature of your disability, you add the necessary documents to your application.

Below you will find an overview of the possible documents.

VAPH stands for: Flemish Agency for People with Disabilities
DG stands for: Directorate General for People with Disabilities

Physical disability
Hearing impairment
Visual impairment
Chronic disease
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
Autism spectrum disorder  (ASD)
Tic disorder
Developmental coordination disorder
Developmental dysphasia

Developmental stuttering

Psychiatric disability
Disabilities (other)

step 2

You contact the Student Services to discuss which facilities are necessary, reasonable and feasible in the study program. We base this on the bottlenecks that your disability entails in a particular study program. The purpose of the facilities is to overcome these obstacles, and they can relate to educational and examination activities. This may include, for example, adjusted assignments or deadlines, the use of aids, extra time during an exam or the possibility to explain your answers orally during an exam. To be eligible for exam facilities, your application must be in order no later than 30 days before the start of the official exam period.

step 3

The Student Services allocate the facilities via KU loket. After your file has been processed, you will receive a confirmation email and a certificate with the allocated facilities. You can always contact the Student Services if changes in your situation occur or when questions or uncertainties about the allocated facilities arise.
