Course ECTS Short description
Learning for Life            In this course, you will strengthen your critical and creative attitude concerning educational theories and practices: the focus lies on meta-cognitive approaches to learning.
Global Education Networks and Agencies In this course, you explore ten agencies: UN, UNESCO, OECD, UNICEF, UNHCR, WIPO, UNIDO, World Bank, IIEP, and the African Union. You will research their missions, visions, priorities, functions, analyze their work in  reaching the SDGs, and argue their roles in global collaboration and innovation in the field of education. The course includes visits to the UNESCO headquarters, the IIEP and the OECD in Paris.
Between Memory and Dialogue Living together sustainably and in peace can only happen through open dialogue amongst cultures as well as mutual respect for the other and his or her own cultural heritage and identity.   In this course, you review how new forms of identities in multicultural and multi-ethnic contemporary societies can be built to combat prejudices and discrimination while finding new ways of living together in greater harmony.
Learning for Global Citizenship In this course, you assume active roles to face and resolve global challenges and become proactive contributors to a more peaceful, tolerant, inclusive and secure world.
Personal Growth Appreciative Inquiry is a framework for reaching your full potential as complete human beings. You will develop courage, wisdom and leadership qualities required to constructively contribute towards building a culture of peace as well as grow as a person.
UN Sustainable Development Goals You will gain sound insight into the global status of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals and acquire critical- and systemic- thinking skills. Through exercises in collaborative decision-making and problem-solving, you learn to take informed decisions and responsible actions for environmental integrity, economic viability as well as a just and inclusive society for both present and future generations.

elective programme: 10 ects

Choose courses from three (3) possible elective packages to add 10 ECTS to your Common Programme. The courses of the elective packages are found in the Faculty of Teacher Education for native Flemish students and given in English. International students follow classes together with the native Dutch-speaking students. Due to potential scheduling conflicts, students can only choose courses out of one single elective package for 10 ECTS credits.  For courses with limited amount of students, we will use the “first served, first come” principle. For courses of elective package 3, “Advanced Future Skills”, special approval is needed.
