Target group: students (with interest and focus on life sciences, (biomedical) chemistry)
Objectives and description:
The International Student Project is a short-term collaborative initiative that combines virtual and physical 5 days exchange. It brings together at least three European universities or universities of applied sciences offering professional bachelor’s programs in Biomedical Laboratory Sciences, Lab Science, or Biotechnology. Participating students work in internationally mixed teams on a research project designed to foster essential research skills, including teamwork, data collection, critical thinking, data analysis, language proficiency, presentation skills, and intercultural competences.
Methods and outcomes:
Students will engage in an intensive, one-week biomedical research project conducted in internationally composed teams, integrating participants from multiple European universities. This structure is intended to replicate the collaborative nature of contemporary scientific practice. Throughout the program, each team will address a designated research question, applying advanced laboratory techniques and theoretical frameworks to investigate relevant biomedical problems. Complementing the core research activities, students will participate in a series of extracurricular and virtual, multidisciplinary sessions designed to foster essential transversal competencies, including collaborative problem-solving, effective communication, and intercultural awareness.
At the conclusion of the project week, each team will prepare and deliver a comprehensive presentation of its research outcomes. These presentations, conducted in English, will provide a platform for students to articulate their findings, justify methodological choices, and critically discuss their conclusions with peers and faculty members. This final component serves not only to demonstrate scientific rigor and achievement but also to evidence the participants’ capacity for effective collaboration and professional communication within an international academic context.

Virtual component description (10/03/2026): Before the international student project begins, participants will connect online to introduce themselves and collaboratively define the research objectives and methodologies. The virtual sessions serve to align the project setup, monitor progress, resolve challenges, and make necessary adjustments. This approach ensures clear communication and fosters an inclusive environment where everyone feels confident sharing ideas and feedback within an international context.
